Booking Up Your Weekend

Wolf and Webb Realtors like to provide our clients personalized experiences where we not only work to help you sell or buy your home but also provide you ideas, suggestions and tips for the process and your time after. One way we provide tips is through our suggestions of things to do or ways to get involved in Lancaster County, this week we want to share with you more about the books.

With the cold weather we have coming in what better way to spend your day than enjoying a new book or film? Taking time to unwind and read a book is a great way to break up all the screen time we have been having from doing work and school from home, dive into a new story or place, learn something new and just relax. Instead of going out to buy a new book, ordering one online or through your kindle head over to Lancaster Public Library and rent out a book!

Using the library is a great way to be sustainable, not hold on to too many books, and also support our local community. Plus Lancaster Public Library has so much to offer! The library has two branches one in Lancaster City and the other in Mountville.  Each is open daily except for Sundays. The Lancaster location is at 125 North Duke Street, and Mountville is at 120 College Avenue. The library dates back to 1759 when it first opened, formed by 54 members and over time grew to the wonderful buildings and spaces we love, talk about another long history in our hometown that we have continued to use as a resource and will continue for years to come. Their mission holds true in the work that all the staff do each day to provide our community the access and resources for great books, “By providing equitable access to vital educational resources, exceptional programming, and community building opportunities, the Lancaster Public Library is recognized as a dynamic center of knowledge and a cornerstone of a thriving Lancaster community”. There are so many dedicated staff members within both locations be sure to thank them next time you head in to pick up a new read.

So what does the library provide? Well it provides a lot more than books there are:

  • Passport services
  • Meeting rooms
  • Public computers and free wifi
  • Proctoring
  • Movies
  • Interlibrary loans
  • Music
  • Programming and events
  • Job resources

And so many more special events, programs and initiatives. I would like to highlight 3 of their remarkable services. The first is their Grab Bags initiatives, this is a great way the library adapted during Covid-19, what you do is fill out their online form giving your library card number and your taste in books then one of the staff members browses the library to get new authors or books for you to enjoy! With the pandemic you have the ability to pick how you would like to pick up your grab bag from what location and using what services, because the library has lobby hours for fast pick up as well as curbside pick ups.

Are you curious about homes that are currently on the market, our website is a great spot to start your search!

The library also has an Autism Resource Center that is 11 years old. This center provides great resources like literature, games and a learning space for social skills, behavioral therapy, conflict resolution, community awareness and interactions. The space is full of sensory items to meet the needs of all their patrons. This space is truly remarkable and a wonderful resource for all community members that may need it.

The Duke Street Business Center is the third resource I would like to share with you all. This is a space for nonprofits, entrepreneurs, business individuals or anyone that would like to learn more. It is a space where the staff member is experienced in conducting business, and nonprofit research. The librarian is able to help you learn how to use different softwares and databases to meet your business needs and learn more. The business librarian is available by appointment only so you can really tailor your meeting to what needs you might have. The Duke Street Business Center also has computers and seating spaces that are for the use of business and nonprofit users only. It is wonderful for individuals to have their own space that they can go to for tailored help and equipment.

While the Center has individualized support so does the rest of the library, the employees are all incredible, hardworking and knowledgeable individuals that really make your experience a great one.

Every week the library puts on multiple events at both locations. This is a great way to meet others within our community, enjoy learning about something new, join a book club or play games. What is wonderful about the events is that you pre sign up to the events that are in person so that way they can maintain capacity and ensure safety. They are also hosting virtual events for you to attend from the comfort of your own home! Events are a variety of topics, types of programs and also for a variety of age ranges, some are for teens, children or all ages. Be sure to check out their events calendar for this month, who knows you may want to get into a new book genre and joining a book club is a great way to start the discussion and find new authors to check out!

With just a few more weeks until spring, spending so much time at home does not need to be boring, stressful or a time where you are at a loss for what to do. Especially with the Lancaster Public Library not far away. Get yourself a library card to enjoy great books, movies, online platforms and when we can have a great space to sit for an afternoon and have time for yourself. On your way home with a new book grab a cup of coffee from one of the many local shops and dive into a new story or learn something new with the help of the Lancaster Public Library. It is a great way to spend your time! If you find any good reads be sure to share, always up for a new book recommendation!

Take a Pizza my Heart

With Valentine’s day behind us and the month of love coming to an end, who’s to say it needs to stop? Let’s continue to show some love to Lancaster County by shopping local and enjoying some great meals while we are at it! An easy family and friend crowd pleaser has always been pizza. You can get it delivered, add fun topping and have a little clean up. This week I want to share with you ten great places to enjoy a slice, or two or a pie within Lancaster County.

Two Cousins Pizza Paradise, is located at 3099 Lincoln Hwy E. in Paradise. They recently opened an online ordering system where you can place an order from your computer or phone! Their ingredients are sourced from local farmers markets providing each person truly a fresh pizza! They offer two types of pizza with a lot of fun options of toppings. The first type of pizzas are traditional pizzas that consist of traditional pizza cheese, homemade dough and their pizza sauce (of course with options for tasty toppings too). The second option is one of their specialty pizzas, these are ten pizzas all unique flavors with creative toppings. They range anywhere from taco pizza to a farmers delight pie. Check out their website for all the delicious options!

The second pizzeria I would like to highlight is Slugger’s Pizzeria, they are located at 701 N. Queen Street in Lancaster. What is great about their pizzeria is that they are open everyday and walking distance from the Clipper Magazine Stadium. Talk about the perfect place for a pre-game slice! You can get a slice from the pizzeria for less than three dollars as you walk to a game or order a whole pie for your family on your way home from work. Their menu has eight specialty pizzas from a veggie extreme to the slugger. Each specialty pie comes in the large sixteen inch size, great to share with your loved ones!

Rosario’s Pronto Pizza & Italian Restaurant is located at 289 West Main Street in Leola. While they also have a restaurant I will just be sharing their pizzas with you today. They offer customers a variety of pizza pie options in a variety of sizes twelve, fourteen and sixteen inches or their party pizza of twenty four inches! While they have twelve speciality pizzas from ranch romano to hawaiian pizza they also have a crowd pleaser of thick sicilian pies…this is a great way to enjoy pizza!

Today’s Pizza is located in Mount Joy at 933 East Main Street. Open and run by the Roman Family which opened in May 2019. As a newer establishment they have jumped right in creating a space of community and support through hosting fundraisers where they have been able to help the Milanof-Schock Library and Donegal High School. Talk about using your space for good! This pizzeria offers a variety of specialty pizzas from the classic Margherita or Meat Lover to a unique spaghetti pie! They also have gluten free pizza options for those who need or would like and daily deals. Check out their online ordering system for more tasty options!

Roma Pizza is located at 54 East Main Street in Lititz. While you can enjoy a delicious slice of pizza you also have the option to enjoy a pie or two. One type of pizza pie that is creative are their stuffed pizzas. Their grandma style pizzas bring a taste of childhood to your home if you grew up with a grandmother that enjoyed making pizzas when you would come over. Their online ordering on their website makes it easy for you to place an order for takeout or delivery because they accept not only credit cards but apple pay, paypal and venmo…talk about convenience!

The next spot for great pizza is not found at a pizzeria or an italian restaurant it is found at Root’s Country Market and Auction in Manheim! Norma’s Pizza is made with fresh dough that melts in your mouth…so good! The pizza can be bought by the pie or by the slice. It is a great way to enjoy lunch as you roam through the market! Norma knows the market well and she and her husband used to run the Knepp’s Caramel Corn stand at Roots which had been in his family for years when he became too ill to help with the stand they had to sell it. After selling that stand she started the pizza stand and it has been a hit! If you are looking to order a pizza pie be sure to check out her facebook page because orders need to be placed in advance, you cannot get a pie day of. You cannot go wrong with her plain pie the sauce and cheese are top notch and when it comes right out of the oven there is nothing better!

Luca Lancaster is located at 436 West James Street. Their pizzas are Neapolitan inspired and boy can you tell! They use a wood-burning hearth & Neapolitan oven. Luca has been communicating with their patrons regularly about what they can offer and provide each customer to ensure safety by having the first page of their menu be information about reservations, car pick up and their at home kits. They offer five different pizzas each mixed with wonderful ingredients and delicious dough you might just have to order all five pies to enjoy with your family! From the classic Margherita to a Piccante pie that includes hot honey…you can’t go wrong with any or all of the five!

Parma Pizza and Grill can be found at 301 Main Street in Landisville. This location has been open since 2005 and they have created a space where old school pizza comes to Lancaster! They offer traditional pizzas, their specialty pizzas, stuffed pizzas and bavarian style stuffed pizzas…talk about a variety. Bavarian stuffed sounds like the pretzel we all know because that is exactly it. Their Bavarian stuffed pizza is a pretzel crust bringing salty a creative way to enjoy pizza.

The next pizzeria to highlight is Espino’s Pizza Pastas & Subs located in Lancaster at 323 West Lemon Street. You can enjoy their cheese pie at any size from twelve inches all the way up to thirty two! Everyone can enjoy a slice when you can get a pizza pie that big! Espino’s also offers a handful of specialty pizzas as well as Sicilian pizza…yum!

The last pizzeria I want to share is Steel Peel Pennsylvania Pizza Company they are located in Lancaster at 611 Harrisburg Avenue. They offer a gluten free crust option, and toppings based on the type of pie you get. Neapolitan or Sicilian while you can enjoy those classic pizzas you can also make it your own with their fun variety of toppings for each! Steel Peel offers a variety of stellar specialty pies with options for flat, stuffed or counter style stuffed (try it!). With over a dozen specialty pies you are going to want to keep coming back to steel to try them all!

Each of these pizzeria’s offer a variety of other options from sandwiches and salads to pasta dishes. They are also providing either delivery options, or contactless pick up, be sure to check out each website to learn specifics on how they are accommodating patrons to stay safe. Some of the pizzerias offer daily deals and coupons that you can use at check out too! While these are not the only pizza places in Lancaster, be sure to find some spots on your own and let me know if there are more I should try! As you look to the week’s ahead and decide what is for dinner, why not give one of our local pizza spots a try! Support local while enjoying a great meal with family or friends. Maybe have a family or friend pizza party in the coming weeks and get a pie from multiple places and then have everyone rank their favorites to find your crowd pleaser! Taking a pizza’s Lancaster’s heart one bite at a time. Let me know if you try one of these spots or if you find another in Lancaster that I should check out!

Isn’t this a-MAZE-ing

Have you ever experienced a top ten? Maybe it is top ten ice cream flavors at a parlor, listening to the top ten songs of the week on your favorite radio station or it could be trying top ten most popular workouts of the year…but have you ever experienced one of the top ten corn mazes in the United States? There is one right in our backyard!

Located at 150 Cherry Hill Road in Ronks you will find Cherry Crest Farm, an incredible space that has been within Lancaster County for over twenty-five years. This farm offers amples of events and activities for school, friends, and families! The farm is open in Spring, Summer and Fall months. This is an adventure farm that is operated with only solar power and has over 300 acres of land! What is wonderful about Cherry Crest Farm is that they are driven by their mission, vision and values in all the work they do through entertainment, service, education and cultivation. The farm has eight values and they are:

  • Integrity
  • Biblical Stewardship
  • Service
  • Simple Fun
  • Exceeding Expectations
  • Creativity
  • Safety
  • Education

The farm dates back to the early 1700’s but was owned by a different family and over the years the farm has switched families until the current owners, the Coleman family. Their farm is made up of beef cows, crop farm, and a ton of activities for fun from their famous corn maze to a jump pillow, petting zoo, slide, wagon ride and more! If you have children they would absolutely love all the games and activities to do at the farm. Let’s focus on their three months starting with spring since that is right around the corner…why not spark some ideas for the family and a day out on the farm!

Spring is known as “Early Season” at Cherry Crest Farm. During the spring you can enjoy over thirty activities. Help with the baby chicks or go to the paintball range…Cherry Crest works hard to bring a variety of activities in each season so that there is something for all age ranges. During the summer the fun and activities continue to grow from apple games & more. During the summer is also when the corn maze opens up and guess what…the path and design changes every year! Good luck to newcomers and regulars, what a way to keep the fun coming! During the fall Cherry Crest continues the maze fun while adding in classic fall favorites like a pumpkin patch! If you feel like you want a bigger challenge you can do the maze at night with flashlights too. Talk about creativity! With enough activities to fill multiple days I suggest you take a day or a few to experience the farm and they offer a variety of food options as well your whole family can enjoy the entire day including incredibly tasty treats! They have Chuck Wagon Cafe & Grill, Home Cookin’ Cafe, Maizie’s Dairy Barn and wagons of treats like: Apple Cider Donuts, pizza, kettle corn and lemonade. The Dairy Barn is definitely a must before you leave their ice cream and other sweets are mouth watering!

While the farm itself can give you a day outside full of laughter and enjoyment the Cherry Crest Farm does a wonderful job of adding in unique and creative events throughout their seasons to enjoy. From butter making demonstrations, pig races, bringing local wineries and breweries to the farm, fireworks, music and variety shows. The farm’s events are each different. Be sure to check out their seasonal event calendar to find out how you can enjoy one of their special days on the property with friends!

Cherry Crest is a great way for enjoying a nice day outside, having a birthday party, having a campfire, booking a field trip for your students or an afternoon of live music. The innovative way Cherry Crest uses their land, and space to provide a true one of a kind experience is exactly why they are one of the top tens you need to experience this spring!

As we power through the cold weather and get closer to spring be sure to check Cherry Crest Farm out and when they open this spring plan a trip with your friends or family. You will have an absolute blast at the adventure farm, this is a great way to get outside, learn about the local environment and support a local family owned business! Can’t wait to hear what you think of this wonderful spot!

Cocina Mexicana

When you think Lancaster County what is the first thing that comes to mind? Is it food, a restaurant, a market, fruit stand, vegetable stand, a meal you had? We have all had that one…or a few meals where you can not help but say WOW. It was well made, delicious and the place you got it from provided the perfect atmosphere. While when we think of the perfect meal it can bring us to remember a great trip, a weekend away, that time in Europe but what about that time here? In our hometown within Lancaster County where was a time your meal made you say WOW? Mine is from Cocina Mexicana, a wonderful restaurant that brings authentic Mexican food to Lancaster through so many plates and flavors it is hard to pick just one as the favorite.

Cocina Mexicana is located at 112 North Water Street in Lancaster. They are open Monday through Thursday from 11:00am until 8:00pm and Fridays through Saturdays from 11:00am until 9:00pm, closed on Sundays. With this timeframe you have the opportunity for brunch, lunch, dinner and dessert!

Cocina is Lancaster City’s first authentic Mexican restaurant; they offer a regular menu as well as a catering menu. Both give you wonderful options to feed yourself, family or friends. Let’s dive into the food, their menu offers a variety of salads, appetizers, tacos, burritos, tortas, enchiladas, alambres, platters, tamales and drinks. From vegetarian, fish, chicken, beef, pork and eggs Cocina has a variety of options to make your plate just right for you! One of my go to favorites is their seafood combo- you get breaded tilapia fish with a shrimp enchilada and a shrimp tostada. The combos are a great option because you really get the chance to taste multiple dishes in one meal, it is awesome! Their menu is wonderful full of variety, an appetizer I highly suggest are their Sopes. These are two thick tortillas that have sauce, onion, cilantro, cheese and sour cream on them…DELICIOUS! You can add meat to them or have them on their own either way you cannot go wrong.

When the weather gets warmer maybe ordering off their catering menu could be perfect for a day or evening on your back porch. If you are having some family or friends stop over for a visit Cocina Mexicana’s catering menu could be the perfect solution so you do not have to worry about cooking and can enjoy your company. Their catering menu has a variety of options from salads, appetizers, enchiladas, multiple meat options and dessert. What is so nice is that the staff at Cocina Mexicana will work with you, their menu is typically for 20 people but they are flexible with the quantity you need, they are also flexible if there is something not on their menu that you were hoping to get you can work with them to find something that is just right for your order. If it is not on the menu you can see if they can make it and if not they give you multiple options, it is so easy doing business with them for catering truly a wonderful option!

So who is behind Cocina Mexicana? Lucy, Lucila Gomez Lucero brought Lancaster this wonderful place. She grew up in Puebla, Mexico. Where Lucy grew up it is a place that is abundant in fresh fruit, wonderful flavors and strong traditions within the kitchen. She says her food and way within her restaurant are driven by her experiences and the way she grew up with her family. She has created a wonderful restaurant that emulates her history, traditions and love for cooking!

During COVID Cocina Mexicana is working hard to keep their employees and patrons safe with limiting their hours and providing takeout or delivery. For takeout you can call in your order and they will give you a time frame so you know when to come and pick it up. For pick up you have three parking options, there are two garages walking distance or if you find street parking, know parking is free after 6:00pm on the street. If you are not wanting to pick up the order you can have it brought to your home through Doordash or the Grubhub apps. They ask that patrons do not use delivery.com when online ordering. You can find Cocina Mexicana on Facebook, check out their site or social media account to see what is new and give them a like! While you think about the week ahead and what is on the menu for your family maybe take a night off and order some delicious cuisine, you will not regret it! Cocina Mexicana will become a family favorite, I am sure of it!

Thanks for checking out this week’s Lancaster Local Secret, did you know purple hardboiled eggs are red beet eggs? Have a great week!

Ice, Chili & Fire

It is our favorite time of year again…the annual Lititz Fire & Ice Festival would be right around the corner. What we typically look forward to and  know is a time with ice sculptures, great food, live fire show, breathtaking art, block party, an awesome chili competition and the Lititz Lions Carnival & vender fair. While the Lititz Fire & Ice Festival is not happening this year it will be back in February 2022. But that doesn’t go without some celebration this year!

Though we will not have our favorite chili cookoff, fire show, carnival or block party festivities we WILL be able to experience the remarkable ice sculptures! Lititz Fire & Ice Festival is revamped to the Lititz Ice Walk for 2021. From February 12th until February 20th you can walk through the streets to see the sculptures. Each day more will be added so this does not have to be a one day walk you can go to Littiz multiple times to see what has been added! This is a great way to get the family outside and moving after the past few cold snow storms we have had while getting a taste of one of our favorite Lancaster County winter traditions.

Venture Lititz has thought of everything making sure we are all kept safe, this event is all outside, there will be no live carvings, and people are required to be masked and stay socially distant. By adding extra days to the event this is a way they are working to help spread out the crowds as well. It truly is magnificent that during this time the committee and organizers thought to figure out a way for us all to have a little cheer and taste of our Lancaster!

The ice sculptures will be located on North, South and Broad street. There are going to be twenty six ice sculptures put out on just one day! Then in the following days another fifteen sculptures and twenty two…that is over sixty plus ice sculptures to enjoy and truly marvel at.  What is wonderful is that like the Lititz Fire & Ice Festival the Lititz Ice Walk is also sponsored by local businesses and organizations. Some of the ice sculptures are in front of local shops and businesses. This is a great way to pop into the shops and get a valentine gift for someone you love or a birthday gift! Attending this event is a great way to support our local businesses while enjoying the artwork of so many! Consider getting a hot chocolate or order takeout for when you finish your walk for a great meal after with your family.

Moo’vin on Over

One of the great aspects of Lancaster County is the fresh produce. We are so lucky to live in a space with farms and properties that grow, make and create some of our favorites! Kreider Farms is one of my go to favorites when it comes to dairy products…but that is not all they offer, continue reading to learn more!

Kreider Farms was established in 1736 located at 1463 Lancaster Road (RT.72) in Manheim township. The farm was started on 102 acres with a dozen cows and a few hundred chickens. The farm was run by the Kreider family: a husband, wife and their two sons. This farm is a dairy farm where they processed and bottled not only their own milk but ice cream as well! During this time of the early 1970’s the eggs began to also do very well over the years Kreider Farms became the largest egg producer in the state! The farm has stayed in the family for three generations with over 400 staff members helping the farm thrive. The property has grown immensely to 3,000 acres- what is wonderful about this family farm is their mission that has stayed true to the efforts and initiatives of the farm, “live a philosophy that emphasizes high quality, hard work, and willingness to take risks”.

While their is such a rich history to Kreider Farms the employees and family continue to shape the farm working towards sustainability and preservation through tradition. What is so wonderful is tha the farm continues to invest and work towards ethical practice and clean energy. One practice that the farm does is waste recycling which is using cow and chicken manure to create fertilizer for the farm. That is not the only way Kreider uses fertilizer, they also use liquid by-products as bio-available fertilizer for their crops. The incredible things about this is that it limits the runoff that is typically caused by fertilizers. If you are into gardening or one of your new year resolutions is to build up your green thumb then you should consider buying their manure blend and potting mix that is made with their manure…talk about using what you have to be sustainable and effective! A few important notes on Kreider Farms is that they employ no-till farming, crop rotation, and use of solar panels. The farm really works to be sustainable and create a product that is ethically made (and TASTY)  while promoting sustainable practices. Talk about a win win!

A Play on Words

Entertainment comes in so many shapes and forms. Experiencing different forms of entertainment can be cozy on your couch watching a movie, outside enjoying live music, attending an art show or attending the theater. When someone hears theater they may think of New York City or Philadelphia, they may not realize that we have an incredible theater right around the corner, Fulton Theater. Fulton is located at 12 North Prince Street, PO Box 1865 Lancaster. The perfect spot to enjoy live theater for an evening out or a matinee with some family or friends.

Fulton is a regional theater that emulates the creativity of our community. Each production is different from the next, putting the audience into a trans, removing them from reality and diving into story lines through tugging at our emotions. The art does not stop with the story lines it is throughout the music, the costumes and set each performance is full of so many details truly transforming the theater.

The Fulton is located in one of our national historic landmarks, a beautiful building that has been restored to highlight the history while providing large scale productions and more! The theater community within Fulton is one for all of Lancaster, providing multiple ways to get involved and experience the theater in different ways. If you are interested in attending a production you can pick from musicals to dramas, comedies and more. Fulton Theater also has experimental studio plays and workshops to participate in. The theater works to bring our community together. Those within the theater are professional actors, directors, playwrights and more from all across the country truly putting on a show of a lifetime. The current Executive Artistic Producer is Marc Robin. Marc has been with the theater since 2001. Marc has staged over 40 productions creating remarkable experiences for all who sit within the Fulton.

The historic building goes back to 1737 when the building was a pre-revolutionary jail. In 1852 the space transformed to a community center to hold meetings, concerts and more. In 1856 the building was sold keeping the community center in mind, shifting to a performance venue taking the name of “Fulton Opera House”. The history of this space is emulated within the building through the beautiful architecture. You can see how much detail, hardwork and love went into creating a space for all to enjoy!

Something that stands out within the Fulton is their academy. This teaches artists to work to meet the needs of a diverse group of learners. They provide lessons and classes for young children (3-6 years old), elementary aged and teens. The students in these programs learn skills to focus on performing art tools, learn acting exercises and build problem-solving skills within the performing arts that can be used in their daily lives as well. By building body, voice, imagination the students learn how to dance, sing, act, produce and so much more learning from professionals within the field. While the Fulton’s mission emphasises community they offer scholarships for the academy giving all children within the Lancaster community an opportunity to experience this experience.

An experience at the Fulton is one of a kind, to show your support you can give back to the community by becoming a supporter, you can make a gift to help support the community through transformations by participating in their annual campaign. If your business has experience the theater as an office outing out and felt moved you can become a corporate sponsor! There are so many ways to show your support for the Fulton through financial givings but also as an ambassador. Fulton Ambassadors are volunteers at least 16 years old that are hardworking individuals with a drive to help build, support and grow the theater. There are many ways to be involved in the theater as an ambassador from education and community engagement, accessibility team or administration and development. Talk about a firsthand experience in the arts!

To experience a show be sure to check their shows section of their website. Here you can purchase a ticket to experience a day at the theater. Something I would suggest is picking a restaurant near the theater for dinner or brunch depending on the time of your show. Enjoy a day out within our wonderful county, you will feel like you are in New York City or Philadelphia enjoying the theater while only within your backyard. Fulton Theater offers shows from a variety of genres, truly something for everyone!

As we continue to look for new things in Lancaster County to have new experiences and adventures it is important to take into account the restrictions going on and how each business is operating. Fulton Theater is offering Fulton HD providing the theater in the comfort of your own home, this is a wonderful way to get a taste of the theater with your family. Be sure to follow their updates to know when ticket sales will be able to start again for Kinky Boots, Titanic, Jersey Boys and more! Enjoy a night out or in, a weekend brunch and a show to take time to experience something new. The Fulton Theater is waiting for you, you will not want to miss this experience!

Howl’ You Doin’

What is absolutely wonderful about where we live is all that Lancaster has to offer. There truly is something for everyone be it movies and plays, cuisine and restaurants, clothing and shops or activities! A unique feature of Lancaster County is the wolf sanctuary, a space for wolves to seek refuge for treatment cultivating a life that is protected will provide the space for natural instincts and growth to occur. What is unique about a sanctuary is animals that go to these will spend the rest of their lives in that space.

Lancaster County holds one of these incredible spaces, located in Lititz at 465 Speedwell Forge Road. The Wolf Sanctuary of PA is located on over 80 acres of natural land to provide the wolves a terrain identical to the wild they would be roaming. This sanctuary is run by the Darlington family and has been for over 40 years. Within the sanctuary you will find not only gray wolves but wolf-dogs as well which are just as the name states a mix of a domestic dog and wolf such as gray, eastern, red or Ethiopian. This space started as a private rescue but now is an educational space where patrons can learn all about wolves, their habitat, history, and so much more!

The Wolf Sanctuary of Pennsylvania is currently home to over 60 wolves each with their own unique personality, fur coat, and ways of life. The sanctuary does an incredible job to bring to light each of the wolves personalities through detailed biographies on their website as well as wonderful photos and videos. This sanctuary is a 501 c3 nonprofit where you can fully immerse yourself in the life of these wolves through their virtual videos or through an in person visit. Visits are done through tours where you follow a walking trail through the acres of land being able to witness the life of the wolves inside. It is suggested that proper walking shoes are worn as well as attire, being outside it is important that you dress accordingly to ensure you are comfortable. While exploring the sanctuary you are allowed to take photographs but lenses cannot be longer than 5 inches, you cannot take videos or use tripods, selfie sticks or monopods. It is important when attending a tour you follow the guidance of your tour guide this ensures the safety of yourself, those around you, and these magnificent creatures. Tours need to be booked in advance right now and can be done on the sanctuary’s website with immediate payment options. It is important to note that during the tours you are going to be walking pack to pack around the acres of the sanctuary and will be following the tour guide taking time to pause and learn about each wolf.

After touring the sanctuary if you fall in love you are welcome to return at any time, try another tour experiencing all it has to offer! Being a volunteer gives you the opportunity to help the sanctuary run daily where you help with many facets including special events or weekends. In order to be approved as a volunteer one must participate in an orientation process and training to ensure you meet all the necessary requirements needed for this program. Being a volunteer is a wonderful way to get involved in the local community, help a nonprofit and experience a strong work environment where you will build many skills in a unique atmosphere! Talk about an incredible experience…unique and making a difference for our wildlife.
