With this warm weather continuing to come it is time to take full advantage of all the places and spaces to enjoy a night out with friends, a dinner with family and an ale to go with your meal or great music! We are going to share with you four different spots in Lancaster you should check out-

Mad Chef Craft Brewery is located at 2023 Miller Road, East Petersburg. They are open Wednesdays through Mondays with kitchen hours where you can enjoy great meals and appetizers as well as Pub hours. This pub is a newer brewery where they really created a relaxing atmosphere that is fun for time with friends. They have a rotating menu of house made beers. What this means is their craft list changes and you can enjoy different types of beers with so many different flavors to try! Mad Chef also has gluten-free options to enjoy! The food they have to enjoy with their beers are off a regular menu and weekly specials, I highly suggest the Pommes Frites to enjoy with your craft beer. This is Belgian french fries with a variety of delicious dipping sauces! If you are looking for a casual night out with friends consider going to their trivia nights on Mondays from 6pm-8pm.

Take a stroll down North Prince Street and swing into Our Town Brewery. Our Town Brewery started as a homebrewery during two friend’s time at Penn State and bringing it to a community space for all to enjoy. Their space works to connect neighbors while enjoying fresh tastes in every sip. What makes this space community based is not only the atmosphere these two friends created but also the history. Our Town stands in a building that is over 100 years old, it used to be a tire company…talk about innovative, creative and historic! Our Town has a variety of beers full of unique flavors from many ingredients. The variety at Our Town has a flavor everyone will enjoy, if you are new to the beer scene consider taking a trip to try flights and learn which ones are your favorite. That is a fun way to try local spots!

928 North Prince Street is home to a wonderful brewery where you can find locals and visitors alike enjoying great drinks at the beer cafe and the company of friends. That is right Cartel Brewing and Blending is a fan favorite whether a Lancaster local or new to the area you will feel right at home. Opened Thursdays through Sundays you can head to Cartels with your friends for a drink off their tap list or to go list! Have you ever heard of a breakfast brew? Breakfast in the Dark is a creative milk stout that is mixed with chocolate and caramels, espresso and a milk stout talk about creative and tasty, consider a try and let me know your thoughts! While the beer is spectacular don’t forget to enjoy the beer cafe while there, what stands out about Cartels is you can enjoy great food, pick to go on a day one of your go to local food truck favorite is there. The menu for beverages are creative, unique and delicious while also having the option to pair them with mouth watering bites. Don’t forget to knock if you want access to this hidden gem!

The next spot on the list has three different locations and has been creating beer since 1995, it is Lancaster Brewing Co. Lancaster Brewing has a commitment that focuses on using quality ingredients to create their craft beers, they were Lancaster’s first commercial brewer! Talk about a hopful history! They have year round stouts and beers to be enjoyed as well as seasonal creations. Their cans are creative and artistic, each a piece of artwork. If you have not tried Lancaster Brewing Co. consider trying their double chocolate milk stout or their baked pumpkin ale at the end of the summer. Do you have a favorite beer, which one is it? You can enjoy your drink and a great meal at the brewery, in Harrisburg or at their tap room. No matter the season, no matter the location the food, atmosphere and quality beers are enjoyed by all!

The home was built by Christian and Anna Herr now the purpose of this house/museum is based off of six core values they are education, preservation, accessibility, intentional health, relationships and faith. These values emulate through your experience be it a museum tour or attending one of the classes offered within this space.

The Herr House is open April through October on Fridays and Saturdays from 10:00am until 4:00pm. If you want to go into the house you need to go on a guided tour where you learn about the history, experiences and architecture. Realize your pup was not on their best behavior at the park? Or maybe you saw a dog so well trained you are questioning if you should teach your furry love some new tactics? Look no further than The Zen Dog Den. The business is run by certified dog trainer Cherisse Feddock plus two other fabulous behavioral trainers Stacey Samii and Kelcy Waller. Everyone works as a team to help families achieve peace and happiness with their dogs inside and outside the home. The team has years of experience and expertise to help you and your pup be the best they can be! Cherisse has also worked with trainers across the world such as Cesar Millan.

The approach of the Zen Dog Den is to not only train but train by focusing on behavioral, instinctual and primal approaches which is truly remarkable and creates a different experience for the dog as well as the owner long after they have completed the program. Owners learn to truly understand their four legged family and build on methods that can be practiced in multiple settings. Through the work of the trainers, you and your family will be forever grateful as you learn and adapt to understand and connect with your pup. There are multiple types of services and training you can request from refreshers to a brand new owner. All of the training is done in-home so it is personal and convenient for clients, not to mention that most of the unwanted behavior occurs in the home in the first place.

Something that is a crowd favorite is the Zen Dog Pack Walks at the Overlook Park. This is an opportunity for clients to practice what they learned in the program and see what kind of pup they have within a pack of other dogs and humans. The best part is that the Pack Walks are free of charge and do not require RSVP! The trainers are available during the walks to answer questions. The Kentucky Derby has been around since 1875, this year the event is in May. And all those involved have been working to ensure safety, procedures and proper protocols are in place to keep all the attendees, jockeys and horse owners safe. This event has been held annually as spectators come together to watch the fastest riders compete to be crowned winner. The race is a Grade I stakes race that three year old thoroughbred horses can race in for 1.25 miles the event is held at Churchill Downs in Louisville Kentucky a dirt track. It is the first of the three races these horses participate in otherwise known as the American Triple Crown. It is truly the most exciting 2 minutes of sports that happens each year! Though we are not near Churchill Downs it has always been a great tradition for Americans all over the country to tune in to this race and what is wonderful is that within Lancaster County we get in the spirit through the derby event while also turning it into a fundraiser!

Last year over one million dollars was raised for charity, I am excited to see how much our community can come together and raise this year for charity! This is truly one of the biggest charity events in Lancaster each year and makes a difference for so many. This event is hosted by Clark Associates Charitable Foundation, they have been around for fifty years helping give back to the Lancaster Community. This year the money raised will be supporting seven different organizations:

  • Anchor Lancaster
  • Conestoga Valley Education Foundation
  • Lancaster County Conservancy
  • Manheim Township Education Foundation
  • Pequea Valley Education Foundation
  • Schreiber Center for Pediatric Development
  • Warwick Education Foundation

These are all organizations that so many members of our community have utilized or know of so it is important to be given the opportunity to help support them.

The event is sold out so if you were unable to register in time for a ticket consider donating to one of these organizations on your own to be a part of the money raised to help support Lancaster County. Our County has always been one that helps others and works to support those around us during this spring, and this year I hope you take time to help other neighbors. Volunteer, donate monetarily or your time, help our community when you can, it is important to be a part of the community in a positive way! My Cup of Tea

Wolf and Webb Realtors like to provide our clients personalized experiences where we not only work to help you sell or buy your home but also provide you ideas, suggestions and tips for the process and your time after. One way we provide tips is through our suggestions of things to do or ways to get involved in Lancaster County, this week we want to share with you more about a true hidden gem, the Sugarplums and Teas.

Are you someone that enjoys trying new places, taking some time to dress up and enjoy a day out or are looking for your new favorite local spot? Look no further than Sugarplums and Teas located at 403 Bank Barn Lane in Lancaster. Opened Tuesdays through Saturday from 10:00am-4:00pm this quaint spot is perfect to relax or celebrate a special occasion with your loved ones.

This tea room has more than 100 different varieties of tea from places across the globe. With so many options it may be hard to choose just one to enjoy on your outing out but do not worry they offer an online store where you can purchase their loose tea leaves to try a whole variety…or this just means another day to Sugarplum and Teas! If tea is not your cup of tea do not worry the tea room also offers specialty drinks and coffee to enjoy during your visit!

Are you curious about homes that are currently on the market, our website is a great spot to start your search!

While sipping on some tea you will most definitely want to order some sweets or a meal to enjoy at your cheerful table. The Sugarplums and Teas offer a variety of sandwiches, and other fun meals to enjoy like quiche, wraps and salads. Or sweet treats like brownies, scones and other mouthwatering baked goods and pastries. If you are going with friends or a group I suggest doing their Courtyard Tea or high tea. You can pick from three-tiered which is a soup or salad, for savorie pieces, three sweet treats and a pot of tea or the garden tea which is one savory, a small salad, small fruit cup, scone and tea or they have the trio of savories where you can pick three savory items a small salad and a pot of tea. With the variety of options it gives you the perfect pick depending on your party’s size.

A few of my favorites to consider if you are not sure what to try are the quince of the day, their turkey & brie, veggie panini or hawaiian chicken salad. Have you tried something I did not mention? Every Year Lancaster City hosts the Restaurant Week bringing our community together through food, while also people from outside of Lancaster County to enjoy the fun festivities and tasty treats. This week’s Restaurant Week is April 12th through the 18th that being said things are going to look a little different this year.

The Lancaster City Restaurant Week has announced their changes on their website to ensure that participants are safe, provided options and can support their favorite food joints while also trying new ones throughout the whole week! This year the committee who puts on Restaurant Week highlighted the importance of supporting our local businesses after this year and the hard times independent restaurants across the world have been impacted by pandemic. This year restaurants, small businesses and places to enjoy the festivities are providing you with options to ensure safety and comfortability. You can dine indoors at some locations with social distancing, take in some delicious meals at outdoor dining locations or take out and enjoy it in the comfort of your home. When you go to the restaurants to check to see if they are selling merchandise or gift cards, this is a great way to continue the support and help your favorite spots.

Are you curious about homes that are currently on the market, our website is a great spot to start your search!

If this is your first Restaurant Week in Lancaster County get excited it is a week like no other! A few ideas to enjoy the festivities if you can is try to order from a restaurant each day whether you are going in person or picking up your meal to go. Consider trying a new restaurant or a few to add to your list of favorite spots!

If it is a nice day have some fun restaurant hopping with your friends you could enjoy a meal at a different location or get appetizers and slowly work your way place to place for a day of tasty experiences, laughter, and excitement for helping the local spots. Appetizer hopping is an amusing way to not only try different dishes from multiple restaurants but keeps the excitement going while you and your friends walk from place to place. You not only enjoy the food but the experience and seeing the different atmospheres and set ups at each location.

What is great about Restaurant Week is their website, if you do not want to walk around downtown or new to the area and unsure of what restaurants to try check out their website to search participating locations, you can even search based on type of food, or meal (breakfast, lunch and dinner) this is a great way to come across spots you may have never tried or learn about locations that offer more than you thought. You can also follow along on Instagram by following #LCRW2021 and also using the hashtag as you work your way through the best foodie spots around! You can share your experiences while also seeing other patrons and what they are trying or enjoying. A great way to try eateries!

Snow More Geese

Wolf and Webb Realtors like to provide our clients personalized experiences where we not only work to help you sell or buy your home but also provide you ideas, suggestions and tips for the process and your time after. One way we provide tips is through our suggestions of things to do or ways to get involved in Lancaster County, this week we want to share with you more about Snow Geese!
Snow Geese…what are those you ask. Snow Geese are native to North America and there are white and dark ones. These beautiful birds migrate each year in our backyard, it is an experience like no other! Migrating is when animals move from one habitat to another typically depending on the season. If you are looking to see this for yourself look no further than Middle Creek located at 100 Museum Road in Stevens, Pennsylvania.

Are you curious about homes that are currently on the market, our website is a great spot to start your search!

Middle Creek is a wildlife management area providing Lancaster residents hiking trails, conservation trails, Non-motor boat experiences, events and a heritage museum. Their website provides PDF documents of trail maps, tours, checklists, area maps, newsletters, curriculum, and more. Before scheduling your trip be sure to check it out to ensure you have everything you would need.

This past weekend we took a trip to Middle Creek to watch the Snow Geese migration and it was remarkable! Before going to watch the Middle Creek Snow Geese Migration we tuned in to the video made by Middle Creek’s manager providing us all the information we needed to know in order to view the snow geese safely.

Getting to Middle Creek in February or March is a great way to get the family outside, learn something new about wildlife and have an experience you will truly remember forever. Every year thousands of snow geese make a pit stop in Middle Creek. They are here in the winter months but leave in February or March this is why now is a great time to go. When you go to Middle Creek in March there is a chance you see the birds migrate, watching the geese fly with their white wings in the sky is a sight like no other. When we went to view the Snow Geese this past weekend we went to Willow Point Trail, a great spot to see the birds. Before packing up the family for an afternoon out it is important you dress warmly, bring your mask and something to capture this beautiful sign of nature! One suggestion from the Middle Creek employees is to visit in the early hours, that will provide less of a crowd when you go and would most definitely be breathtaking as the sun comes up!

It is important to follow the migration tracking on their website to ensure you go when you will be able to see these birds. If you are unable to get there this weekend it is definitely an activity you MUST add to your bucket list. Viewing these birds in real life will be jaw dropping, an experience you will not want to miss! Hopefully you and your loved ones can enjoy this magnificent experience soon!

If you cannot make it to the migration this year do not worry you can livestream from Pennsylvania Game Commission’s website. This is a great way to share the experience with your family and friends from the comfort of your own home. It is also a creative way to have your children learn, if you are a teacher maybe tune in to the live stream with your class while explaining migration? This could be a fun and creative way for your students to learn something in any subject and base it off of their own backyard of Lancaster County. If you do this definitely let me know, I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the Snow Geese Migration!

When it is not migration season that does not mean to stay away from Middle Creek, actually it means visit again and again! Middle Creek is open all year and provides patrons the opportunity to get out into nature in fun and different ways. If you and your friends want to enjoy the warm weather that is upon us heading over to Middle Creek for a hike is a great option or kyacking! Getting out on the water is a wonderful opportunity to destress and enjoy the breeze. Head out for a morning hike with a nice cup of coffee or pack up lunch for a day out on the water. Be sure to pack up what ever you pack to bring in, to ensure safety of wildlife and keeping our natural preserves clean! Great ways to get out and experience beautiful Lancaster in new ways, and more ways where you will want to just keep coming back for more. If you fall in love with our incredible County consider making it your home, here at Wolf and Webb we can assist you in buying a home. We pride ourselves in personalized experiences, afterall we are~

Booking Up Your Weekend

Wolf and Webb Realtors like to provide our clients personalized experiences where we not only work to help you sell or buy your home but also provide you ideas, suggestions and tips for the process and your time after. One way we provide tips is through our suggestions of things to do or ways to get involved in Lancaster County, this week we want to share with you more about the books.

With the cold weather we have coming in what better way to spend your day than enjoying a new book or film? Taking time to unwind and read a book is a great way to break up all the screen time we have been having from doing work and school from home, dive into a new story or place, learn something new and just relax. Instead of going out to buy a new book, ordering one online or through your kindle head over to Lancaster Public Library and rent out a book!

Using the library is a great way to be sustainable, not hold on to too many books, and also support our local community. Plus Lancaster Public Library has so much to offer! The library has two branches one in Lancaster City and the other in Mountville.  Each is open daily except for Sundays. The Lancaster location is at 125 North Duke Street, and Mountville is at 120 College Avenue. The library dates back to 1759 when it first opened, formed by 54 members and over time grew to the wonderful buildings and spaces we love, talk about another long history in our hometown that we have continued to use as a resource and will continue for years to come. Their mission holds true in the work that all the staff do each day to provide our community the access and resources for great books, “By providing equitable access to vital educational resources, exceptional programming, and community building opportunities, the Lancaster Public Library is recognized as a dynamic center of knowledge and a cornerstone of a thriving Lancaster community”. There are so many dedicated staff members within both locations be sure to thank them next time you head in to pick up a new read.

So what does the library provide? Well it provides a lot more than books there are:

  • Passport services
  • Meeting rooms
  • Public computers and free wifi
  • Proctoring
  • Movies
  • Interlibrary loans
  • Music
  • Programming and events
  • Job resources

And so many more special events, programs and initiatives. I would like to highlight 3 of their remarkable services. The first is their Grab Bags initiatives, this is a great way the library adapted during Covid-19, what you do is fill out their online form giving your library card number and your taste in books then one of the staff members browses the library to get new authors or books for you to enjoy! With the pandemic you have the ability to pick how you would like to pick up your grab bag from what location and using what services, because the library has lobby hours for fast pick up as well as curbside pick ups.

Are you curious about homes that are currently on the market, our website is a great spot to start your search!

The library also has an Autism Resource Center that is 11 years old. This center provides great resources like literature, games and a learning space for social skills, behavioral therapy, conflict resolution, community awareness and interactions. The space is full of sensory items to meet the needs of all their patrons. This space is truly remarkable and a wonderful resource for all community members that may need it.

The Duke Street Business Center is the third resource I would like to share with you all. This is a space for nonprofits, entrepreneurs, business individuals or anyone that would like to learn more. It is a space where the staff member is experienced in conducting business, and nonprofit research. The librarian is able to help you learn how to use different softwares and databases to meet your business needs and learn more. The business librarian is available by appointment only so you can really tailor your meeting to what needs you might have. The Duke Street Business Center also has computers and seating spaces that are for the use of business and nonprofit users only. It is wonderful for individuals to have their own space that they can go to for tailored help and equipment.

While the Center has individualized support so does the rest of the library, the employees are all incredible, hardworking and knowledgeable individuals that really make your experience a great one.

Every week the library puts on multiple events at both locations. This is a great way to meet others within our community, enjoy learning about something new, join a book club or play games. What is wonderful about the events is that you pre sign up to the events that are in person so that way they can maintain capacity and ensure safety. They are also hosting virtual events for you to attend from the comfort of your own home! Events are a variety of topics, types of programs and also for a variety of age ranges, some are for teens, children or all ages. Be sure to check out their events calendar for this month, who knows you may want to get into a new book genre and joining a book club is a great way to start the discussion and find new authors to check out!

With just a few more weeks until spring, spending so much time at home does not need to be boring, stressful or a time where you are at a loss for what to do. Especially with the Lancaster Public Library not far away. Get yourself a library card to enjoy great books, movies, online platforms and when we can have a great space to sit for an afternoon and have time for yourself. On your way home with a new book grab a cup of coffee from one of the many local shops and dive into a new story or learn something new with the help of the Lancaster Public Library. It is a great way to spend your time! If you find any good reads be sure to share, always up for a new book recommendation!

Thanks for checking out this week’s Lancaster Local Secret, did you know in Pennsylvania a fan favorite is ham loaf- made from ham, ground pork, brown sugar, and seasoning? Have a great week!

Contact Mary Sue Wolf to look at homes and properties where you can not only be a member of a great public library but also get there with a quick walk or drive through the beautiful countryside or incredible city streets. You will love it here!
