The Perfect Afternoon in Strasburg, PA

Ready to think about finding your perfect home in Lancaster? If you are curious about homes that are currently on the market, our website is a great spot to start your search!

Whether you live in the area or not, Strasburg, PA is an adorable, quaint spot for a day trip. It’s a picturesque little town with tons to eat and do, but today’s post is centered around what we’d consider the perfect afternoon here.

Breakfast, followed by a show, anyone???

PC: MY JOURNEY BY DORIS HIGH

Start your day early by getting to Agape Café, located nearby in Ronks. It’s the most delicious, Instagrammable café in the area. Be prepared to wait! But this wait is worth it for some of the best brunch foods around… Pancake boards! Brown sugar bacon?!? When I went a couple weeks ago, I split the five egg omelet with a friend and loved it. We cannot recommend Agape enough!!!

PC: AGAPE FACEBOOK

LANCASTER LOCAL SECRETS TIP: CALL AHEAD! I live about 40 minutes away from Agape, and luckily my friend called and put our name on the list before we left our houses.  By the time we drove there and parked, they were ready for us. I highly recommend calling ahead on Saturdays, which is when we went. *note that they are closed Sundays and Tuesdays.

PC: LANCASTER ONLINE

After you indulge in a memorable breakfast, drive a couple minutes down the road to the second portion of the day: seeing a show at Sight and Sound Theater.

PC: LANCASTERPA.COM

WOW. These shows honestly rival Broadway! And isn’t the outside just gorgeous.

I’ve taken my family here from the time my children were babies. Just when I think the shows can’t get better, the next one tops it. They are bible stories brought to life, with huge casts of talented actors, live animals (birds, camels, etc) and unreal stages/sets. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing most shows they’ve done over the years, most recently Queen Esther. It’s still playing now – hurry, get tickets before the show ends!!!

PC: LANCASTER ONLINE

LANCASTER LOCAL SECRETS TIP: you can’t go to a S&S show without getting their amazing roasted nuts. Have you had the nuts sold on the streets of NYC? They are like that, but better!

PC: HORST CONSTRUCTION

And another reason to love Sight and Sound Theater… Wolf & Webb’s very own Derek Webb’s wife is an actress here! Go Gretchen!!!

PC: BIRD IN HAND

Be sure to add these to your list of things to do in the area! We have no doubt you’ll plan another visit to go back and do all the other fun activities Strasburg has to offer.

Tubing is Back!

Ready to think about finding your perfect home in Lancaster? If you are curious about homes that are currently on the market, our website is a great spot to start your search!

Haven’t we been spoiled with these low-80s temps? If you want to make the most out of Lancaster’s beautiful weather, look no further than tubing down the Pequea Creek at Sickman’s Mill!

Located just a few miles from downtown Lancaster, Sickman’s Mill offers you the ultimate summer experience. The tubing takes about 2 hours round trip, but that time will fly as you float past the eagles, hawks, deer and many other animals. You’ll finish at the creek and be picked up and shuttled back to Sickman’s Mill, where you have even more entertainment waiting for you!!!

New this year – thanks to the new owners – is Jimmy’s Place. This is the summer hang out spot located at Sickman’s Mill, where you can kick back and relax with a beer or a drink. They have live music and special events posted on their calendar for the rest of summer. It’s a perfect treat for after your float, or make it an adventure in itself! You don’t need to go tubing to enjoy Jimmy’s Place…everyone is welcome. 🙂

PC: https://outfitters.sickmansmill.com/gallery/

Typical hours are 10am-5pm, but do you work full time until 5? The perfect solution to making sure you can hit the creek is the extended float and sunset cruise every Wednesday evening. Listen to live music, enjoy a drink at Jimmy’s, bring s’mores and get ready for a perfect summer night.

If you’ve never been tubing before, it might be a good idea to sign up for a Guided Tubing Tour. This 4-hour float with an experienced tour guide is a mix between gentle floating and a couple river rapids, all while soaking up the beautiful Lancaster County countryside. On the other hand, if you love tubing and know you want to go more than once, consider purchasing a season pass.

There is something for all levels at Sickman’s Mill! Visit https://outfitters.sickmansmill.com/ for ticket information and pricing. Remember – it is cash only.

PC: https://outfitters.sickmansmill.com/gallery/

This is another activity my family loved doing while growing up. Even my daughter, who is not a fan of the outdoors, loves going to Sickman’s Mill for a float. Your family is sure to love it, too. Tubing is a great mix between relaxing and exploring the outdoors. Hop on an inflatable tube, strap on to your friends, and enjoy your float under the beautiful green canopy of trees!

3 Sweet Spots to Try This Summer

Ready to think about finding your perfect home in Lancaster? If you are curious about homes that are currently on the market, our website is a great spot to start your search!

Ice cream is pretty much synonymous with summer, right? If you want to try a new sweet treat, instead of your typical ice cream run, here are three places in Lancaster that are sure to satisfy your sweet tooth!

Lancaster Cupcake

To know this place, is to love this place. They offer a variety of flavors from classics like chocolate and vanilla, to lemon lavender and peanut butter caramel crunch. The menu is always changing based on the season and holiday!

PC: lancastercupcake.com

Not only are the cupcakes delicious, but the atmosphere is adorable. You can find them a few different places: one downtown at Central Market, one at Market at the Wilbur, and one on Granite Run Drive in Lancaster. Make sure to stop in and see all the charm it has! Better yet, if you have an event coming up, hire their Cupcake Truck! It is sure to steal the show…

Javateas Coffee Shop

My daughter saw this promoted online and we made a point to visit this weekend. Located in Ephrata, it has been around for 15 years and they also have a location within the Ephrata Wellspan Hospital.

What drew us to visit Javateas were their coffee flights!!! For around $10, you get to enjoy a flight of coffees.  How creative?!? They change the drinks in the flights monthly, so we are excited to go back in in the Fall and Winter.

PC: Lauren Wolf

If a coffee flight doesn’t sound like your thing, they had a huge menu serving breakfast, lunch AND dinner! If you are thinking about getting food, look no further than the Montecristo sandwich….we have been dreaming about this yummy sandwich dipped in maple syrup ever since!

Oola Bowls

Last but certainly not least – Oola Bowls!!! Our family favorite. It’s such a delicious, refreshing treat to have in the summer. You can visit them at Central Market or visit their new & adorable store on Fruitville Pike (which even has a drive through).

We usually get the original acai bowl, but recently discovered the almond dust topping – you NEED to add it the next time you go! Make sure you join their loyalty program – you’ll love Oola Bowls so much that you’ll earn yourself a free bowl in no time.

Can you believe we are heading into August already? What a great – albeit fast – summer it has been so far! It is the perfect time to make the most of the next few weeks of summer and do all the fun outdoor activities our amazing Lancaster County has to offer! We know exactly where you should start… Shank’s Mare!

Are you a fan of water sports? Whether you’re a pro or a beginner, Shank’s Mare has something for the whole family!

Located on the shores of the Susquehanna River, Shank’s Mare Outfitters offers sales and rentals of countless outdoor activities. They specialize in the sales and rentals of kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding, along with a full schedule of classes you won’t want to miss out on.

For the beginners: If you’ve ever wanted to give kayaking or stand up paddle boarding a try, this is the place to do it! Sign up for a private lesson or get a group together to kayak alongside instructors at one of their guided outings.

For the pros: If you’re feeling brave, try their Yoga class. But wait…it’s on a paddle board…actually over a shallow area of the river. Talk about a workout! I can’t personally recommend this one from experience, because I can promise you I haven’t tried it before… but if you do, you need to share a picture with us after.

For EVERYONE! Paddle & Pizza with John Wright Restaurant is offered every other Wednesday night in the summer. What better reward for a nice kayak workout than pizza (besides cocktails)!

Mt. Gretna ~ A Hidden Oasis

Ready to think about finding your perfect home in Lancaster? If you are curious about homes that are currently on the market, our website is a great spot to start your search!

At the beginning of every summer, my family compiles a list of activities we want to accomplish before the season ends. We get really creative and add things that we’ve never tried (such as OGO Balling – more on that in another post!)  But one activity that is on our summer “to do” list every single year is a visit to Mount Gretna. Now is the perfect time to go!

Mount Gretna is truly one of Central Pennsylvania’s hidden gems. An 18-mile drive from downtown Lancaster will instantly make you feel like you’ve traveled hours away. It’s always cooler in temperature, completely shaded by tree canopies overhead, and offers visitors the quaintest small town in the area.

Pennsylvania Chautauqua Mount Gretna, Pennsylvania

Not only is it full of charm, Mt. Gretna is a summer staple because of the activities it has to offer.

Mt. Gretna Lake & Beach

In need of some diversion from going to the pool? Why not visit the Mt. Gretna lake? This is the perfect place for families to spend a summer day. There are lifeguards stationed around, kids dock to swim to, 8 acres of beach and lawn to sprawl out on, and a snack bar. For the older kids (or yourself, if you are adventurous!) try kayaking, jump off the high dive, go on the swing in the middle of the lake, or climb on the giant oversized chair and snap a picture. You’ll want to remember what a fun day you had!

The lake is open between May 27-Sept 4, from 11:30am to 6:30 pm. Due to capacity limits, admission tickets must be pre-purchased. To purchase tickets, visit: https://mtgretnalake.com/

Gretna Emporium

If you like shopping for little tchotchkes, you can’t miss the Gretna Emporium. It is overflowing with eclectic gifts and souvenirs and there is surely something that will catch your eye!

Open daily from 11:30am to 9:30pm.

Mt Gretna Theater

Whether you’re a fan of theater or not, you will love this charming, not-for-profit theater. Enjoy a mix of Broadway musicals and comedies in America’s oldest open air Summer Theatre. Saturday mornings offer theater productions for children!

Gretna Theatre in Mt. Gretna

Tickets are available for purchase by calling the box office (717-964-3627) or in-person at the theater.

Jigger Shop

Saved the best for last! The words “Jigger Shop” are truly synonymous with summer in our house and you’ll see why after your first visit. Step back in time and into this old-fashioned ice cream parlor, which offers everything from burgers, sandwiches, and salads to ice cream sundaes and milkshakes.  After all, it’s been around for 100 years – you know it has to be special!

**Wolf Family Tips**

  • They have the best root beer in frosty mugs, fresh beignets, and loaded fries!
  • Go EARLY – the line can wrap around the building!
  • Dog Friendly!

Your perfect summer escape is waiting for you under the trees of Mt. Gretna. Make sure to plan your visit before summer ends!!!

A REEL Good Time!

Ready to think about finding your perfect home in Lancaster? If you are curious about homes that are currently on the market, our website is a great spot to start your search!

Have you returned to movie theaters since Covid hit? If you are looking for something to do on one of the rainy days we are expected to have this week, or wanting an escape from the 95 degree heat, check out Reel Cinemas – Lancaster!

Reel Cinemas, located 1500 Christopher Place in The Crossings at Conestoga Creek (by Wegmans), opened in 2020 just before Covid struck. Since reopening, they have implemented safety protocols such as distanced seating between parties. If that’s not enough, you even have the option to have a private screening by reserving an entire auditorium for groups of up to 50 people!

One thing that stands out about Reel Cinemas is their PROMOTIONS! Who doesn’t love a discount?!

  • Tightwad Tuesday – $6 admissions ALL DAY!
  • Before 4 pm – matinee prices for $10.50

***MONEY SAVING TIP: Pre-purchasing your tickets on Fandango allows you to pick your seats online after purchasing AND is cheaper than buying tickets at the theater. (Groupon does not allow you to select your seats online).

One thing our family loves to do together is watch movies, and we really missed watching new releases during the pandemic. There is nothing better than sitting in a dark theater, watching a movie while munching on buttery popcorn! But something perhaps even BETTER than Reel Cinema’s promotions… is their food. Their menu goes far beyond popcorn and candy: they offer appetizers, entrees, desserts AND they deliver it to you at your seat.

They also have a FULL BAR. We know we got your attention now!!!!

Currently, Reel Cinemas is offering seven movies with multiple show times. Go to their website to see their offerings and plan your next movie escape: https://www.rclancaster.com/Browsing/Cinemas/Details/lancaster and let us know how your experience was!

Located at 262 Hopeland Road, Lititz Pennsylvania you will find a breathtaking barn with space to enjoy good company and delicious food! The farm has been in Lancaster since the 18th century and the history behind this place is truly magnificent. From ironwork, farm animals, financial backgrounds to a restaurant there is so much to learn about our beautiful county from spaces like The Barns at Elizabeth Farms.

Are you curious about homes that are currently on the market, our website is a great spot to start your search!

Join in the fun by attending one of the Farm-to-Table meals this summer. On Saturdays you can enjoy fresh, local ingredients right from the farm! Bring some family or friends to enjoy the venue, live music, great drinks and sometimes trivia!

There is something for everyone from chicken frites, to pork rinds and more your mouth will be watering!

You can pick from five proteins, four sauces and five sides. A great one is the Pork burger served with farm fries or their mushroom steak with a side of charred asparagus…delicious! After a great meal why not treat yourself to one of their delicious desserts from gluten free to vegan options there is something for everyone all coming from the delicious Cake and Cup Bake Shoppe! Lavender Raw Cake, whoopie pies or a salted caramel cupcake what a way to enjoy a nice evening out! A wonderful add on to the menu is the partnerships with local winery Moon Dancer, local beers, fresh tea and lemonade…the perfect beverages for a hot summer day! The bar within the barn is an experience in itself with local drinks and a rotating seasonal menu you can pop over to enjoy a drink or two inside and outside with some friends! Relaxing spots with exposed brick, beams and wood makes enjoying your cocktail that much better. The staff are friendly and kind with a great knowledge of the local drinks on tap. Who knows you might find your new go to summer drink!

Hops for a Good Summer

Wolf and Webb Realtors like to provide our clients personalized experiences where we not only work to help you sell or buy your home but also provide you ideas, suggestions and tips for the process and your time after. One way we provide tips is through our suggestions of things to do or ways to get involved in Lancaster County. This week we want to share with you more about the Farm that brings us entertainment, great food, drinks and live music.

You heard that right, a farm that does all this! Kissel Valley Farm is one of a kind right in our backyard. Located at 645 East Oregon Road in Lititz you will find home to this wonderful farm. At the farm you will find a few things from 21 acres that provide the perfect sunset view, to a farmhouse from the 1800s giving you a taste of our rich history. You can also enjoy their vineyard. This is a partnership with Waltz Vineyards where they work to create delicious wines for Lancaster patrons and visitors to enjoy regularly. If you have not already be sure to check out our blog on wineries and vineyards within Lancaster County! While walking around the farm be sure to take in the breathtaking wildlife as they have created a 3 acre wildflower field not only for patrons to enjoy the beauty of the floral colors in bloom but to help rebuild and support the pollination within Lancaster County.

Are you curious about homes that are currently on the market, our website is a great spot to start your search!

While Kissel Valley Farm provides a variety of breathtaking views, incredible scenery, historic buildings and local partnerships it also works to provide the Lancaster community activities, events and enjoyment all year round. One thing they are known for is the Pop-Up Beer Gardens. In 2019 Kissel Valley Farm partnered with Wyndridge Farm Brewing for their pop-ups; they did it again in 2020…do you think there might be a pop-up partnership this year? One can hope!

The pop-ups were weekends long providing individuals opportunities to get to the event or even go a few times. Every Saturday and Sunday throughout the month of August and September you could go to Kissel Valley Farm for the free event. When on the farm you had the opportunity to taste and enjoy beers and ciders from Wyndridge as well as amazing food from local food trucks. These pop-ups were great ways to get together with friends, enjoy the outdoors, support the locals, and soak in the last weekends of summer.

If you got to the pop-ups at the right time you might be able to enjoy live music and entertainment from our Lancaster community as well as yard games. If you attended a pop-up beer garden you would see patrons sitting on beach chairs, towels and blankets. You would hear instruments, laughter, and gulps. These weekends were times that brought the Lancaster Community together full of joy and fun. This year the pop-up partnership is with Bulls Head Beer Garden, and…it already started! A video was recently posted about smoothing out the lawn for upcoming beer garden pop-ups with Bulls Head Public House throughout the weekends of May through October, more time to enjoy!

Admissions is five dollars and children 12 and under are free. There will be a rotating mobile beer tap, wine and cocktails too, providing a taste for everyone who attends!

If you are thinking about heading to the garden this weekend or maybe a couple times this summer be sure to bring your admissions fee, something to sit on because picnic tables are limited. Do not bring outside concessions but do support the local businesses, food trucks or catering of the weekend for delicious meals and snacks. Be sure to bring sunscreen as the summer months get closer. It will be getting warmer and stay hydrated with water and lotion to protect yourself!

What seems like a new yearly tradition is one to be sure to make note of, it is a great way to enjoy the beautiful scenery and time with your friends.

Finding local events in Lancaster is not hard, so many companies and businesses work to bring the community together through food, drinks, entertainment and more. This is one of the many reasons why Lancaster County is truly one of a kind! A space for all to enjoy, where everyone can find things to do, try new places and meet new people. Our County is full of Local Secrets making it a unique and special place to be a part of.

Have you heard of a local event happening in the summer of 2021? Let me know about it, I would love to check it out!

Contact Mary Sue Wolf to look at homes and properties where you can explore the outdoor events and spaces of Lancaster any day of the week! You will love it here!
