An Afternoon at the Polo Fields!

If you’re looking for a relaxing, fun activity to do on a Sunday afternoon this Fall, look no further than a polo match at Forney Fields in Rothsville, PA – minutes from downtown Lititz.

The Lancaster Polo League has polo matches every Sunday from June through mid-October. Check out their website for more information on their home match schedule.

The gates open at 1 pm and matches begin at 2:30pm. Children under 12 are free! Anyone above 12 is $5. Remember – this is weather permitting! Check the website for weather updates the day of.

Each match has a theme or benefits a special organization. For example, September 5th is accepting donations for our local SPCA. Later in the month, there will be a food truck offered! We know that October is breast cancer awareness month, and the first week of October is benefiting this important cause!

Here’s what you can expect:

Drive through the gates and park anywhere under the trees on the perimeter of the field. Grab some friends, blankets and chairs to sit on. Set up your tailgate and unpack your delicious spread to enjoy before and during this classic game.

Halfway through the game, you will be invited to “divot stomp”, which is an age-old polo tradition! This is when you stomp on the divots in the field, which helps preserve the field and enhances safety for the players (and horses). This is an activity that thrilled my kids when they were little! According to their website, even the Queen of England stomps divots when she attends a match!

So if you want to feel like royalty, or be transferred to the English countryside, visit the Lancaster Polo Club and let us know what you think!

Eating Guide: Downtown Lancaster, PA

Most people picture farmlands and horse and buggies when they think about Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Did you know downtown Lancaster has recently been dubbed “Little Brooklyn” due to all the restaurants, attractions and nightlife it offers? The food scene in Downtown Lancaster, PA might be one of the best parts about the city! There are so many restaurants and cuisines downtown that the list may seem endless.

We’ve rounded up a list of what restaurants to try for your visit to downtown Lancaster. We love to support local businesses, so note that the list does not include any chains.

Café One Eight

You know those cozy bakeries that make you want to wrap up in a cozy blanket and sit down with a hot cup of coffee and good book?! Well that’s Café One Eight!  I love to meet up with friends here for coffee or a quick bite of food and relax in their beautiful, welcoming space. I recommend any of the seasonal coffees and teas!

Shot and Bottle

It doesn’t get more “downtown Lancaster” than brunch at Shot and Bottle! Situated in the center of Penn Square, the heart of downtown, you can soak up all the historic charm the city offers while dining on a delicious brunch! And maybe sipping on one of their signature lunch cocktails.

Conway Social Club

A true secret gem in Lancaster County! Why is it a secret, you might ask? Because it’s a speakeasy! Located above Annie Bailey’s Irish Pub, you enter Conway Social Club by knocking three times on the door from the street. After walking up the staircase, you will be greeted with the dim, intimate ambiance inside. The curtains are pulled back and smaller dining areas make for a cozy dining experience. If you love a good craft cocktail, this is the place for you! The best cocktails in Lancaster. The cocktails are robust and uniquely presented. The Yellow Canary cocktail even comes in a glass bird-shaped glass. Delicious and so cool!

Last but certainly not least is Luca. Make sure you make reservations because this place books up FAST – because it’s THAT good! Luca combines traditional Italian fare while paying homage to Lancaster County. It sources the freshest local greens and veggies. Everything on the menu is divine, but you need to make sure you order at least one of the wood-burned pizzas and handmade pastas.

Tubing is Back!

Ready to think about finding your perfect home in Lancaster? If you are curious about homes that are currently on the market, our website is a great spot to start your search!

Haven’t we been spoiled with these low-80s temps? If you want to make the most out of Lancaster’s beautiful weather, look no further than tubing down the Pequea Creek at Sickman’s Mill!

Located just a few miles from downtown Lancaster, Sickman’s Mill offers you the ultimate summer experience. The tubing takes about 2 hours round trip, but that time will fly as you float past the eagles, hawks, deer and many other animals. You’ll finish at the creek and be picked up and shuttled back to Sickman’s Mill, where you have even more entertainment waiting for you!!!

New this year – thanks to the new owners – is Jimmy’s Place. This is the summer hang out spot located at Sickman’s Mill, where you can kick back and relax with a beer or a drink. They have live music and special events posted on their calendar for the rest of summer. It’s a perfect treat for after your float, or make it an adventure in itself! You don’t need to go tubing to enjoy Jimmy’s Place…everyone is welcome. 🙂

Typical hours are 10am-5pm, but do you work full time until 5? The perfect solution to making sure you can hit the creek is the extended float and sunset cruise every Wednesday evening. Listen to live music, enjoy a drink at Jimmy’s, bring s’mores and get ready for a perfect summer night.

If you’ve never been tubing before, it might be a good idea to sign up for a Guided Tubing Tour. This 4-hour float with an experienced tour guide is a mix between gentle floating and a couple river rapids, all while soaking up the beautiful Lancaster County countryside. On the other hand, if you love tubing and know you want to go more than once, consider purchasing a season pass.

There is something for all levels at Sickman’s Mill! Visit for ticket information and pricing. Remember – it is cash only.

This is another activity my family loved doing while growing up. Even my daughter, who is not a fan of the outdoors, loves going to Sickman’s Mill for a float. Your family is sure to love it, too. Tubing is a great mix between relaxing and exploring the outdoors. Hop on an inflatable tube, strap on to your friends, and enjoy your float under the beautiful green canopy of trees!

3 Sweet Spots to Try This Summer

Ready to think about finding your perfect home in Lancaster? If you are curious about homes that are currently on the market, our website is a great spot to start your search!

Ice cream is pretty much synonymous with summer, right? If you want to try a new sweet treat, instead of your typical ice cream run, here are three places in Lancaster that are sure to satisfy your sweet tooth!

Lancaster Cupcake

To know this place, is to love this place. They offer a variety of flavors from classics like chocolate and vanilla, to lemon lavender and peanut butter caramel crunch. The menu is always changing based on the season and holiday!

Not only are the cupcakes delicious, but the atmosphere is adorable. You can find them a few different places: one downtown at Central Market, one at Market at the Wilbur, and one on Granite Run Drive in Lancaster. Make sure to stop in and see all the charm it has! Better yet, if you have an event coming up, hire their Cupcake Truck! It is sure to steal the show…

Javateas Coffee Shop

My daughter saw this promoted online and we made a point to visit this weekend. Located in Ephrata, it has been around for 15 years and they also have a location within the Ephrata Wellspan Hospital.

What drew us to visit Javateas were their coffee flights!!! For around $10, you get to enjoy a flight of coffees.  How creative?!? They change the drinks in the flights monthly, so we are excited to go back in in the Fall and Winter.

PC: Lauren Wolf

If a coffee flight doesn’t sound like your thing, they had a huge menu serving breakfast, lunch AND dinner! If you are thinking about getting food, look no further than the Montecristo sandwich….we have been dreaming about this yummy sandwich dipped in maple syrup ever since!

Oola Bowls

Last but certainly not least – Oola Bowls!!! Our family favorite. It’s such a delicious, refreshing treat to have in the summer. You can visit them at Central Market or visit their new & adorable store on Fruitville Pike (which even has a drive through).

We usually get the original acai bowl, but recently discovered the almond dust topping – you NEED to add it the next time you go! Make sure you join their loyalty program – you’ll love Oola Bowls so much that you’ll earn yourself a free bowl in no time.
