5 Hikes To Do This Fall

Ready to think about finding your perfect home in Lancaster? If you are curious about homes that are currently on the market, our website is a great spot to start your search!

It’s officially Fall, y’all!  There are so many great walking trails and hikes in our area.  Between cooler weather and leaves beginning to turn, Fall is the best time of year to check these out!

  1. Pinnacle Scenic Overlook
PC: Trip Advisor

This trail is home to arguable one of the best views in Lancaster County. A 2.75 moderate-to-difficult trail leads to a scenic overview of all the farmland and rolling hills in our area. If hiking isn’t your thing (which is okay too!), you can drive straight to the scenic overlook to see that stunning view.

2. Conestoga Greenway Trail

PC: Lancaster County.com

This trail is located closer to downtown Lanc and is good for all skill levels. It runs 2.6 miles in length and features a beautiful river and lots of overhead shade from the tree canopies.

3. Turkey Hill Overlook Trail

PC: Susquehanna Greenway Partnership

Another hike offering stunning views of the Susquehanna! You can make this hike a loop when you pair it with the Enola Low Grade Trail which is a flat rail trail down along the river. It is equally as gorgeous, as these views of the river totally make the hike worth it. It’s also a great place to spot local birds.

4. Conewago Recreation Trail

This trail is perfect for families, as it is as long or as short as you want it to be. You’ll pass bikers, other walkers, and even horses if you’re lucky! If you want to make an afternoon of it, once you arrive in Mt Gretna, you can leave this trail and head over to…(see #5 below)…

5. Governor Dick

A classic trail in our area! Get your fix of nature and history as you walk the Gov. Dick trail in Mt Gretna. What is heavily forested today once was stripped of trees (200 years ago). During the height of Cornwall’s Iron Furnace production, this area was barren due to the need of charcoal furnaces for iron production. Today, its’ beautiful dense woodlands offer the ideal hiking trail. And if you’re up for it, climb to the top of the observation tower, which is about 1.5 miles from the trail head. We usually walk there and back for the perfect hike duration!

Juisibox: Lancaster’s Best Juice Company

Scroll for an exciting announcement below!

Ready to think about finding your perfect home in Lancaster? If you are curious about homes that are currently on the market, our website is a great spot to start your search!

It’s no secret an emphasis on healthy living has become more and more common over the past few years. Think of all the boutique gyms and smoothie places you see! Lancaster has their fair share of these places, but what it doesn’t have a lot of is fresh-pressed juices. That’s why we are so excited to feature Juisibox this week!

PC: Juisibox

Juisibox is a juice company that offers cold-pressed juices, detoxes, and other wellness drinks to health-conscious people throughout communities. They probably have one of the freshest/healthiest menus in Lancaster including everything from smoothies to salads to energy shots to homemade energy bites and more. They are all Fresh, Raw, Vegan and 100% Natural. And we can vouch that it’s all SO GOOD!

We discovered Juisibox this past summer while driving by their storefront and wondering what they offered. It’s conveniently located off of Fruitville Pike in Hawthorne Center (across the street from Five Guys). This also happens to be near our gym I am Limitless; there is really nothing more refreshing than a cold-pressed juice after a sweaty workout!

PC: AvidDeals

We stopped in and bought way more than we intended to. Their juices are filled with a huge variety of fruits and veggies – with combinations you would never think “work” – but they do. I can’t get enough of them, especially the Yellow Lily juice! This is filled with pineapple, pear, mango, yellow pepper, squash, lemon, lime, orange, and ginger.

If you’re looking for an easy way to increase your fruit and veggie consumption, GO HERE! And even if you aren’t a big fan of fruits and veggies, still give it a try…I think you’ll be surprised.

Juisibox has so kindly offered our readers a DISCOUNT!!!

All you have to do is mention Lancaster Local Secrets at checkout (in person) and you will receive a 15% discount. This is valid ONLY this Monday, September 20 through Monday, September 27 – so hurry over and see what all the excitement is about.

PC: Lancaster City Galleries

On the first Friday night of every month, local businesses downtown come together and celebrate our community. These businesses include everything from art galleries and museums to restaurants, bars, and shops. They keep their doors open later while people from the surrounding area come and enjoy this fun atmosphere. There are street musicians playing and the sidewalks are always crowded with locals – the city truly comes alive!

First Friday events run yearlong from 5pm to 9pm, though many businesses stay open much later. These events are never the same! Each month offers different events and specials. Be sure to check https://visitlancastercity.com/city-events/first-friday/ to see current events scheduled for the next First Friday on October 1st.

A great place to start your evening at First Friday is Gallery Row on North Prince Street. Pop into some of the galleries and chat with local artists! Take in the sights and scenes on the quaint and charming North Prince St. If art galleries aren’t your thing, simply strolling down the block is just as much fun.

The One and Only Lititz, PA

We know there’s a Lancaster, PA – there’s also a Lancaster, SC and a Lancaster, CA. There’s a Lancaster, TX and even a Lancaster, Ohio!

As much as we love our Lancaster, PA, it’s not the only Lancaster in the world… but there IS only ONE Lititz, PA!

Strolling through the charming streets of downtown Lititz will make you feel instantly transported into a Hallmark movie. Walk down Main Street and take in all the sites of cottages and homes lining the street, families walking their dogs and shop owners waving hi as you pass them; this is what being in a small town is all about.

There is an abundance of local boutiques to stop at, cafes to sit at, and even candy shops to graze at. We recommend Tomato Pie Café, located just off Main Street, if you are in the mood for a drink or bite to eat! They offer a variety of traditional and seasonal dishes and pastries – we have been countless times and each time is better than before.

PC: Bring Fido

You absolutely cannot miss a trip to Wilbur Chocolate when in Lititz. I mean, doesn’t that just prove how Hallmark-like this town is?! There is a chocolate factory!! They serve some of the most delicious chocolate candies…Wilbur buds are the best treat for you to bring home and remember your time in Lititz.

PC: Discover Lancaster

Are you a fan of pretzels? They were invented in Lititz! Sturgis Pretzels, America’s first pretzel factory, is located on Main Street and they offer tours of the bakery (and free pretzels at the end)!!

PC: The Common Traveler

After you spend time eating and shopping, burn some calories at Lititz Springs Park. This park is ideal for a stroll any time of year. In the summer you can feed the ducks or catch a movie at the summer film series in the park. Valentine’s day brings the “Fire and Ice” sculpture festival, and 4th of July offers an amazing firework display. It really has it all!

PC: ABC News

Oh, and we didn’t even talk about Rock Lititz, the haven for famous singers and artists. We’ll save that for another post!

This quaint town is home to only 9,000 residents and is only 2 miles in size. It sure has a lot to offer for its small size! In fact, it was awarded “Coolest Small Town in America” by Budget Travel in 2013…One trip to Lititz and you will see exactly why!
